This school year, 2024-2025, I am co-teaching grade 6 at a local independent school as I continue working to complete my B.Ed. My focus areas are English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Career Education. I also teach Religion and a bit of Math and Art. My partner teacher teaches the other core subjects. The two of us balance each other nicely. I am new to teaching, but I am familiar with the school and the students from my work at the school last year. My partner teacher is an experienced teacher but she is new to the school.

Recently, I experienced my first “First Day of School” as a teacher! It was a great experience and neat to see the day from the teacher’s perspective. Before the day began, all the staff met for our daily morning meeting and then we went outside to meet and greet families. Students made their way to their new entrances and we welcomed them inside. The day was only two hours long so we only had time to make introductions and attend the Back to School Welcome assembly. After dismissal, the support staff served hot dogs and juice in the parking lot while teachers mingled with parents in the pick-up line. I enjoyed seeing all my students, chatting with their families, and seeing my preparations over the summer start to come into full effect.

I am excited to see how the year progresses but I think we’re off to a good start!

Here is a photo of me outside my classroom on the first day of school.
