During Block 5 of the program, we were introduced to concepts of second language instruction. French as a second language, or Core French, and Indigenous languages were explored as options for students to explore to fulfil their second language learning.

I had my own reservations about second language instruction before this class because I am not fluent in any language aside from English. After exploring the importance of second language instruction and considering the ways that someone who is not an expert could effectively teach students a second language, I am feeling much more confident. So much culture is preserved and passed down through language itself! I am aspiring to be a teacher who acknowledges that and demonstrates through their actions, that second language is a valuable subject.
